Britney Spears to perform at Teen Choice Awards - Arizona Business Gazette

Britney Spears is set to perform at the 2009 Teen Choice Awards.

The 'Womanizer' singer - who is nominated in three categories - will appear on stage at the annual event on Sunday night at Universal City's Gibson Amphitheatre, in California.

Her performance will mark 10 years since the first Teen Choice Awards in 1999, where Britney - who is currently on a break from her world tour - was one of the performers.

The ceremony will also feature appearances from Black Eyed Peas, The Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus and Cobra Starship with Leighton Meester.

'Twilight' leads the way in nominations at the awards after the hit vampire thriller was recognized in 12 categories, including Choice Movie: Romance and Choice Movie: Drama, while its young stars have been nominated in several acting categories.

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are up for Choice Movie Actor and Actress in the drama category, while Cam Gigandet is in the running for the Choice Movie: Villain.

Nikki Reed, Ashley Greene and Taylor Lautner are featured in the Fresh Faces section.

'High School Musical 3: Senior Year' picked up 10 nominations, including Choice Movie: Music/Dance and Choice Movie Actress: Music/Dance for Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale.

Vanessa and her real-life boyfriend Zac Efron also feature in the Choice Movie: Liplock category.

Zac has been nominated for Choice Movie: Rockstar Moment and Choice Movie Actor: Comedy for his performance in '17 Again'.

'Hannah Montana: The Movie' also nabbed 10 nominations, including Choice Movie: Music/Dance and Choice Movie Actress: Music/Dance for its 16-year-old star Miley Cyrus.

The Teen Choice Awards 2009 will be held on the 10th of August this year with the Jonas Brothers hosting the event.

In the spotlight is Britney Spears who will be receiving a special award at this years Teen Choice. She is (Spears) the female artist with the most Teen Choice surfboard awards, and will be honored with the ultimate choice award for her "extraordinary contributions to the entertainment industry," FOX says in a statement.

Britney Spears is up against stars like Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga and Kelly Clarkson. She is nominated for three awards - choice music single, choice female artist, choice music tour.

The 2009 Teen Choice Awards just got hotter! Britney Spears is set to take the stage for the award show this Sunday night at Universal City's Gibson Amphitheatre, in California.

Contrary to this morning's reports, Britney will not be performing at the Teen Choice Awards. She will still attend the show, and will be honored with the Ultimate Choice Award at the show, where she's nominated for Choice Music: Single, for her song "Circus," Choice Music: Female Artist and Choice Music: Tour.

An announcement on her website reads:

"Britney is appearing, not performing at the TCAs. We are deeply sorry for any confusion and disappointment and appreciate the ongoing dedication of Britney's wonderful fans."

We're sad she's not performing, but at least she'll still be at the show!

After announcing on her Web site on Wednesday that she would be performing at the Teen Choice Awards on Sunday, Britney Spears took to her site on Thursday (August 6) to clarify that she will be appearing — not performing — at the show.

"Update: Britney is appearing, not performing at the TCAs," the statement reads. "We are deeply sorry for any confusion and disappointment and appreciate the ongoing dedication of Britney's wonderful fans."

Spears' appearance will be honored with the Ultimate Choice Award, a rep for the show told "Access Hollywood" on Thursday, after it had been clarified that the singer will not be performing. Spears is also up for three awards, including Choice Music: Single for her song "Circus"; Choice Music: Female Artist; and Choice Music: Tour for her Circus tour, which hits the States again later this month.

Spears will join hosts/nominees the Jonas Brothers, the "Twilight" cast and Miley Cyrus, who is set to perform her new single, "Party in the U.S.A." "Twilight" dominates the nominees list with 12 nominations, including Drama, Romance and Actor and Actress in a Drama. The Jonas Brothers scored nine noms, including Love Song and Breakout Show.

Cyrus, "High School Musical 3: Senior Year" and "Gossip Girl" all tied with 10 nominations each, and find themselves battling it out against each other in the Choice Music: Soundtrack category, where the soundtracks for "HSM" and "Gossip Girl" goes against the soundtrack for "Hannah Montana: The Movie."
