Britney Spears Womanizer MTV VMAs Entertainment News Reigning champ Britney Spears will contend again for the top prize at the upcoming MTV Video Music Awards. Spears landed a nod for her video for "Womanizer," which competes for pop video as well. The title track to "Circus" is up for five technical nods too.

For video of the year, Spears faces off against Beyonce ("Single Ladies"), Eminem ("We Made You"), Kanye West ("Love Lockdown"), and Lady Gaga ("Poker Face").

Last year Spears won her first three VMAs, including video of the year for "Piece of Me." She had lost all 16 of her previous VMA nominations, including her only previous bid for video of the year when "Toxic" lost to "Hey Ya" by OutKast in 2004.

Eminem has taken the top honor twice before -- in 2000 for "The Real Slim Shady" and in 2002 for "Without Me." The rapper has racked up another seven VMA wins, beginning with his first Moonman a decade ago as best new artist. This year he also contends for best male and hip-hop video.

Beyonce has only been nominated for video of the year once, losing her 2007 nod for "Irreplaceable" to, of all people, her husband, Jay-Z, and Rihanna for "Umbrella." Beyonce does have six wins out of 14 nods in various categories to console her. She contends for a slew more this year, with "Single Ladies" earning nine noms in total, including best female and pop videos as well as six technical nods.

West has lost this category twice. "Jesus Walks" was bested by Green Day and "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" in 2005 while "Stronger" was among the videos that also lost to "Umbrella" two years ago. West has just two wins to show for his 11 VMA nominations. This year he also picked up nods for best male and hip-hop video.

Newcomer Lady Gaga could be the belle of the ball as her videos vie for nine Moonmen in all. Besides her video of the year bid, Lady Gaga is up for best new artist, female and pop video for "Poker Face" while "Paparazzi" has five technical bids.

Ashley Olsen: ‘I Look At Britney & I’m Surprised I Didn’t End Up ... - Access Hollywood

Posted: 05 Aug 2009 02:30 PM PDT

LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

Ashley Olsen says she's surprised that her early rise to stardom didn't lead her down a path that many of her Hollywood colleagues have taken – particularly Britney Spears.

"It was almost like I was in the army," Ashley said in an interview for Marie Claire's September issue, referring to childhood photos of herself and sister Mary-Kate during their "Full House" years.

"School, work, homework, fly to New York, get in at 2 in the morning, do a morning show at 5 AM, then another one at 7, then a radio interview at 10, you know?" she continued. "That's why I look at Britney, and I'm surprised I didn't end up like her."

Ashley also opened up about her current passion – fashion – something she feels is innate.

"I think you're either born with a sense of style or you're not," she told the mag." "Either you care or you don't. And [me and Mary-Kate] love fashion. When we were going to NYU, I think that was the first time we were aware of the power of our personal style. Not the power of it, but the result of it. Between the big sunglasses and the Starbucks cup and the big sweaters, the hobo-chic thing, we were more shocked than anything"

The starlet says her style – which is often criticized – is deliberate and influenced by her mom.

"I get it; we were fortunate enough to have really nice clothes, and we put them together in this raggedy way. My mom wears glasses this big from the '70s, and you wonder where we got it from?" she said of her style detractors. "The dark eyeliner, the scarf around the head—it's just so interesting and natural."

And don't expect the twins to fall victim to the latest trend.

"Mary-Kate and I are very aware of trends and style, but at the end of the day, we don't even think twice about it," she added. "It's just, 'What do I feel like wearing today, and how do I want to put it together?'"

Ashley Olsen: I'm Surprised I Didn't End Up Like Britney - Hollyscoop.com

Posted: 05 Aug 2009 12:50 PM PDT

Ashley Olsen knows better than most what it's like to grow up in the spotlight. She and her twin sister Mary-Kate Olsen have been in showbiz since they were babies, and that usually spells trouble as soon as teenage years hit.

Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears, and even her own twin sister have all found themselves in rehab at one point or another, as a result of years under the media microscope.

But somehow Ashley has managed to stay on the straight and narrow, and has never gotten herself into trouble. And even she is surprised about that!

Ashley tells Marie Claire, "I look at Britney, and I'm surprised I didn't end up like her.

She also says her childhood wasn't all fun and games, but that it was constant work. "It was almost like I was in the army. School, work, homework, fly to New York, get in at two in the morning, do a morning show at 5am, then another one at seven, then a radio interview at 10."

Ashley must have done something right! And now she's all grown up, and rather than focusing on TV and movies, is all about fashion.

She has a very successful line Elizabeth & James, and is one of the only former child stars who can honestly say they escaped going through that inevitable rough patch!
