Stargazing: Another soccer model, Clooney gets serious? - Kansas City Star

Posted: 13 Oct 2009 08:25 PM PDT

Ronaldo to bend it like Beckham

That heavy sighing noise?

That's the sound of Cristiano Ronaldo fans reacting to the news that the object of their affection will model underwear and jeans in a new worldwide ad campaign for Armani.

The ads will start running next spring and summer.

This is becoming a trend among soccer players these days. David Beckham also posed seductively in Emporio Armani underwear for billboard and ads in an earlier campaign.

Ronaldo, who signed with Real Madrid over the summer after leaving Manchester United, also plays for Portugal's national team.

Clooney puts a ring on it?

George Clooney off the market? I'll believe it when I actually see it.

In Touch Weekly reports that Hollywood's most famously avowed bachelor has given his new girlfriend, Italian TV host Elisabetta Canalis, a Cartier band.

"It's not an engagement ring — but it is a sign they're getting serious," the magazine reports.

Clooney, 48, is reportedly head-over-heels in love with the 31-year-old. They've been dating since July.

The ring is among a string of gifts he's reportedly given to her, including a pricey Hermes Kelly bag and several pairs of designer high heels. A Maserati might be coming her way, too.

Lucky lady.

Swank: Rethinking the bare body

Hilary "Amelia Earhart" Swank is rethinking her sleep apparel because boyfriend John Campisi's young son has seen her naked in bed.

"I don't sleep in anything, but my boyfriend's son is 6 years old, and you wonder at what age you should stop walking around nude," the actress told Marie Claire magazine.

"Every morning he comes into the bedroom, and you're just nude. But he doesn't look twice — he doesn't think about it yet."

Campisi was her agent when they began dating in December 2006.

Ivey playing Ann Landers

It's all about the hair, says Judith Ivey, who takes the stage in Chicago today to portray Esther Pauline "Eppie" Lederer — known to the world as advice columnist Ann Landers.

It takes a bouffant sprayed firmly in place to turn the Texas actress into the Midwestern advice guru.

"The hair's right," says Ivey, who also had to replace her twang with the distinctive cadence of Lederer's native Iowa.

Ivey's only co-star in "The Lady With All the Answers" is a huge IBM Selectric typewriter like the one Lederer used in dispensing advice.

The two-time Tony winner portrays the columnist during a heartbreaking moment in 1975 when she had to tell millions of readers that she was divorcing Budget Rent-a-Car mogul Jules Lederer.

More Britney dirt

Britney Spears just can't catch a break, can she?

Just when she's no longer regularly showing up in the tabloids comes a new book called "Britney: Inside the Dream."

Author Steve Dennis tells Life & Style magazine about Britney's pregnancy scares while she was dating Justin Timberlake from 1998 to 2002.

"More than once, Britney was absolutely convinced that she was pregnant when she was with Justin Timberlake," Dennis claims.

He also claims that Britney chugged five cocktails after she found out that she was pregnant with her second child, Jayden, by then-husband Kevin Federline.

"She was devastated, already suffering from postpartum depression (after having Sean), and it didn't seem like a blessing at all," Dennis says.

"But Britney wasn't reckless and didn't drink or use drugs during the rest of her pregnancy."

When Lisa Gutierrez isn't wondering why Hilary Swank doesn't just lock the bedroom door, she's Stargazing among hopefully reliable accounts of celebrity news.

Tracy Morgan, Scoopy Giles and the 'Dumplin' Butts' video - Newsday

VH1's 'Behind the Music' returns for 10 episodes

Do you remember VH1's "Behind the Music"?

The show profiled the ups and downs, the drugs, the women and the money of the biggest musical artists of the late 1990s. The cable channel's series is coming back for a 10-episode run this year, with Lil Wayne and Scott Weiland already signed on to participate, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Why revive "Behind the Music"? Thanks to Britney Spears' meltdown, Chris Brown's alleged assault, and Amy Winehouse's arrests, there are plenty more celebrity train wrecks with stories that need to be told and plenty of "friends" willing to go on the show to spill all the juicy details. Who do you want to see profiled?

Here at Pet Rock, we have our own wish list. Feel free to agree or disagree with us in the comments and share your picks.

MC Lyte: I've been a fan ever since she released "Lyte as a Rock" in '88. She was one of the first female rappers to enter a male-dominated arena, and she did it well. I haven't seen much of her lately, and I'd like to see what she's working on now and know more about her early days to stardom. -- Corris Little

Britney Spears: The whole point of "Behind the Music" is to highlight the rise, fall and re-rise of artists. Who rose, fell and re-rose faster and harder than Britney? It would be a story of extreme family drama, addiction, a tragic fall from grace and redemption! And there would be Cheetos eating, violent run-ins with paparazzi, dance parties, possible cheating on Justine Timberlake ... Plus, since she rose to stardom, she's been 100 percent in the spotlight in the digital age, so there would be a ton of footage out there. -- Mark La Monica and Anne Machalinski

Axl Rose: "Chinese Democracy" was actually released. This is cause for celebration, or at least 60 minutes worth of television. -- Mark La Monica

Julio Iglesias: The Spanish legend has released 77 albums in 14 languages (a Guinness World Record). He's sold 300 million units worldwide with 2600 Platinum or Gold records. Maxim Magazine has Iglesias at number four on its top ten "Living Sex Legends" list, as is reputed to have slept with over 3,000 women. He's acted and modeled. He was one of the first Latin men to get his own star in Hollywood. And to think, none of this would've happened if not for a freak car crash that ended his soccer career with Real Madrid. Yep, that's right, he was a professional athlete too. -- José Moreno

M.I.A.: She had me hooked ever since I heard her on "Swagga Like Us," a Grammy-winning song that also featured T.I., Jay-Z, Kanye West and Lil Wayne. Her family's escape from political danger in Sri Lanka, her father's absence and her ability to persevere to create exceptional music intrigues me. -- Corris LittleKanye West: Kanye was a hit producer before becoming a hit rapper. He survived a crazy car accident that delayed his first album release and has since blasted George W. Bush on live television, caused a few ruckuses at awards shows and was just indicted on three misdemeanor charges. He's a polarizing figure who's done a lot of crazy stuff (to get attention?) and is always in the spotlight. It'd be interesting to learn the real story about him, not just what he puts out there himself. -- Mark La Monica and Anne Machalinski

Coldplay: The band is very closed off about their personal life, so it might be interesting to see more about their backgrounds, how they formed, how they became huge stars. I think they're still at the top of their game. Plus, there are so many Coldplay haters (i loved them, then was a hater, now I love them again). -- Anne Machalinski

Radiohead: I don't know much about their rise to fame. I think they're extremely innovative and maybe Thom Yorke has an interesting backstory or maybe he doesn't and he's just a supertalented guy. -- Anne Machalinski

David Byrne: You never really hear anything about his personal life and because, well, because he's awesome. -- Jessica Damiano

Depeche Mode: The band is making a comeback, so the time is right. They've been around since the late '70s, so there is a lot of history there, have sold more than 70 million albums, so there's a huge fan base. I don't really know much about their story as a band, I just like the music, so it would be interesting to learn more. -- Anne Machalinski

Elliot Smith: Big indie musician, he's battled depression, alcoholism and drug addition -- died from stab wounds to his chest at 34, album released after his death -- debate over whether they were self-inflicted. It looked like a suicide, but then autopsy said it could have been a homicide. His music still very popular today with a huge cult following. -- Anne Machalinski

Amy Winehouse: It would be interesting to learn about her childhood since she turned into such a tragic train wreck. -- Jessica Damiano

Seal: Just because I have a man-crush on him. -- José Moreno

Happy dilemma for Oilers - SLAM! Sports

Posted: 13 Oct 2009 04:36 PM PDT

CHICAGO - Its the kind of goaltending controversy every coach dreams of.

A question to which there doesnt seem to be a wrong answer.

Like asking the high school nerd who hed rather take to the prom, Christina Aguilera or a pre-crazy Britney Spears.

Pat Quinn can either go with Jeff Deslauriers, the red hot hand who was unbelievable in his last start, stopping 40 of 41 shots in a 6-1 victory over Nashville, or he could go with the veteran, Nikolai Khabibulin, who was unbelievable in his last start, stopping 33 of 35 shots, and figures to be highly motivated in his Windy City homecoming.

A coin flip could settle this and leave virtually no room for second guessing, but Quinn figures hell just stick to the original script.

Deslauriers against Nashville, Khabibulin Wednesday against the Hawks.

I had made up my mind ahead of time and announced it to the goaltenders, said Quinn, who might have been tempted to put Deslauriers back in there if Khabibulin wasnt so sharp against the Canadiens. You always go in with a plan thats subject to change... but his last game against Montreal was his best and we hope he continues to grow from there.

Were also very pleased with how Deslauriers played, that was such a misleading score last game. They were in an offensive frame of mind and Deslauriers was very good.

So Khabibulin it is, but dont look for any venom in this reunion. Its not Dany Heatley going back to Ottawa or Rob Schremp coming back to Edmonton. Khabibulin enjoyed Chicago, left there on good terms and isnt out to prove anything to anyone here.

This isnt a guy whos big on nostalgia, either. He didnt even make the trip back to Winnipeg (the place where he began his NHL career in 1994) to play the Tampa Bay Lightning (the team he won a Stanley Cup with in 2004) for the Oilers pre-season visit.

Yes, he wants to beat Chicago badly, but no more badly than 28 other clubs.

It would be awesome to win, he said. But at the same time they dont give you extra points for beating your old team, he shrugged. We came here we want to win and thats basically it. I always liked to come here, before I even played here it was a nice city to visit and its like that now.

The Hawks arent always the nicest hosts, though, they have an army of fast players who can know how to score and it wouldnt take much to turn this reunion sour in a hurry.

This is going to be a very good test for myself and the whole team, said Khabibulin. They have a good team now, very balanced and deep.

Which begs the age old question in all goalie homecoming games: Advantage shooters or advantage keeper?

Id like to know that, too, grinned Khabibuin. As much as I know them, they know me, too.

If this game is anything like Chicagos last two home games, prepare for something wild. The Hawks went nine players deep in a shootout in their home opener and came back from 5-0 down to beat the Flames 6-5 on Monday.

Im anxious to see them, said Quinn. Ive heard a lot about their team. Clearly theyre feeling pretty good about themselves. They have some talent and theyre playing a good, solid game.

Miley Cyrus turns to YouTube to explain Twitter exit - LiveDaily

Posted: 13 Oct 2009 03:10 PM PDT

The teen superstar admits she was obsessed and may have some withdrawals but says it's time to keep her private life private. "Everything that I type and everything that I do, all those lame gossip types take it and they make it news," she rapped. "No more emo quotes and fake feuding with Demi, I'm done with all that and the truth is I'm too busy."

In the rap, Cyrus said "the reason is simple, I started Tweeting 'bout pimples" and "who really cares" if she's "playing with Noah" or "doing her hair."

Cyrus also admits she liked reading other star's posts, including Britney Spears and Katy Perry, but adds "I'm peacing-out and I'm leaving with this, ha goodbye."

When Cyrus deleted her Twitter account, her fans and her father rallied to get her to return. Billy Ray Cyrus' recent Tweet saying Miley "can't leave everyone now" and "we r countin on u" was said to be about her decision to stop Tweeting.

In an interesting twist of timing, infamous Tweeter Courtney Love, and her daughter, Frances Bean Cobain, also reportedly stopped their constant Tweeting. According to PopEater, Love's Twitter may have been shut down amid libel claims that stemmed from a series of inflammatory Tweets aimed at fashion designer Dawn Simorangkir.

PopEater also reported that Lily Allen shut down her Twitter site over the weekend. E! News speculated that the shuttering of Allen's account came roughly the same time her relationship with layman builder Sam Cooper kicked into overdrive.

Stopping the Tweets isn't just for the girls, however. In July, Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor stopped his updates saying "I believe I've done all I care to do here at this point," according to an E! Online report. "Flesh and reality and silence are calling."
