obamatweets 300x199 French Hacker Arrested for Cracking Obamas Twitter AccountAfter breaking into President Obama's and Britney Spear's Twitter account this Wednesday, a 25-year-old French hacker is now under arrest in the central French town of Clermont Ferrand.

The hacker goes by the online name of HackerCroll and after getting access to the accounts of Twitter's administrators, the hacker tried to break into the accounts of U.S. politicians and stars. His motives had nothing to do with trying to exploit the accounts for financial reasons, but were only for fame and recognition.

"His aim wasn't to make money. It was simply to show that he was able to access accounts of Twitter members. And the best proof of that is that he did screen grabs of certain confidential data which he tried to post on blogs that are reserved for pirates or hackers" said Captain Adeline Champagnat, a senior member of the police cyber crimes unit.

In the end, he did get his recognition, but I don't think this is the price he wanted to pay for it.

Britney's Satan-loving Twitter hacker is arrested ... - 3am

Posted: 26 Mar 2010 05:25 PM PDT

Remember back in November when some nutjob hacked into Britney's Twitter page and wrote "Glory to Satan", amongst other things? At the time, we wondered if Britney had lost her mind again, but it turns out it was some French guy making mischief.

Well, now le chap in question, Francois Cousteix, has been arrested, and is also accused of hacking the pages of Barack Obama and Lily Allen (first and last time those two will be said in the same breath, we hope) - but he says he's merely a "kind pirate".

"I am not a hacker," says the "unemployed computer technician" (or "loser with cheap broadband" as they're known in the UK). "I am a kind pirate. I did not act with a destructive aim... I wanted to warn them, to show up the faults in the system."

Malheureusement, Francois's "kindness" could now get him two years in prison and a £26,000 fine. But hey, he's a pirate, so perhaps they'll accept a few pieces of eight and a bottle of rum... else he'll end up walking the plank.
