Will America cast votes for freedom or socialism?

America is holding on to freedom by her fingernails. Tomorrow, we will find out whether she loses her grip on it or not. If she loses her grip, she will fall into socialism. If she holds on to freedom, even by a nail, her people will be spared for a time from the ever-growing forces that want so dearly to see her brought down.

With half of the population wanting socialism and the other half wanting capitalism, it’s no wonder America is in such dire straits.

Those who can pray should pray that America holds on for dear life and continues in freedom.

Women's favorite Kim Yu-na arrives at games

Women's favorite Kim Yu-na has skated her first practices at the Vancouver Olympics but isn't talking about her chances of winning South Korea's first medal in figure skating.

But coach Brian Orser, a two-time Olympic silver medalist, says Kim is "unbeatable" if she skates her best.

During a news conference Saturday in which she spoke only about her training and physical condition, the world champion says she feels "very comfortable on the ice." She also says she wants to practice exactly as she has at her training base in Toronto.

Alaskan snowboarder fails to advance

The Winter Olympics are over for Girdwood snowboarder Callan Chythlook-Sifsof.

She fell on both her qualifying runs today and failed to advance to the quarterfinals in the women's snowboardcross.

On a day when visibility was often nonexistent because of thick fog at Cypress Mountain, Chythlook-Sifsof did not finish her second run and posted the day's slowest time in her first run.

Woman strikes deal in burglary case

Todd Palin's half-sister, Diana Palin, struck a deal with prosecutors and agreed to 15 months in prison for burglarizing a home three times and endangering her 4-year-old.

Diana Palin, 35, hugged her victim, Theodore Turcott, after the sentencing last week in Palmer Superior Court, said Palmer assistant district attorney Paul Roetman. Palin told Turcott she was thankful for the kindness he showed her daughter when he caught the toddler and her mother in his Wasilla house. Turcott told the court it was a dangerous situation -- he was armed when he came upon the break-in and the situation could have ended very differently.

She burglarized Turcott three times to steal money for her drug habit, Roetman said. She used her daughter to commit her crimes, including knocking on the doors of homes and gaining access to them by asking homeowners if her daughter could use their bathroom, Roetman said.

Thurston County District Court Judge Susan Dubuisson said Monday she won't run for re- election this fall.

"I decided I needed to let people know because it's only three months until filing," Dubuisson, 60, said. Dubuisson was appointed in 1984 to complete the term of Dan Berschauer, who moved at that time to Superior Court, then won re-election six times without opposition.

The judge put out a statement that includes some background on her lengthy career and her future plans. It also quotes her as saying:

"Through my involvement in judicial education, I have developed a love of teaching that I would like to explore in the future. That's one thing on my list." She also intends to use some of her new-found spare time to pursue certification as a volunteer community mediator, travel, spend time with her extended family, and eventually ride her bicycle across the country.

Sarah Palin - The symbol of cynicism - Delaware Online

Sarah Palin will always be a Hail Mary Pass. She is a last-ditch, slapdash shot for a win. Regardless of facts, faux pas or folly, conservatives will continue to tout her as an asset as long as she continues to act like a battering ram to their opposition. If she still throws jabs, utterly doe-eyed to the implications (i.e. ripping on teleprompters in a prepared speech), the dreaded "elites" of her party will still use her for what she's worth.

She'll stay a paid contributor on Fox News and the others on the same payroll will try and gush over how great she is, her best quality being liberals "hate" her. Because everything liberals hate must be good. The enemy of Fox News' enemy is always good for the country. The bar will continue to be set lower and Palin will sink deeper into self-parody as she becomes even less blinking, more emboldened and more resigned to her belief some divine force (bigger than her PAC even) wants her to be the President of the United States.

Serious conservatives don't want their voice to be a folksy fibbing bridge to nowhere. They don't want a tabloid queen who writes snarky half-baked Facebook entries to the White House Chief of Staff to be their nominee in 2012. But their deal with the devil is they enjoy Palin's swift merciless offense from the sidelines and because of that "talent" she will be given the lectern. And therefore some legitimacy as a "thinker."

Her enthusiasts mark her media storm as the reason why she's a leader in the party (some party, whether it be the Tea Party she's now synonymous with or the RNC which she fits right into). But equating someone's ability to lead with the ability to get coverage is like saying Britney Spears' singing voice is the reason she was the object of an extended media frenzy. It's simply not true.

Being just super and awesome is not what makes the media obsessed with you. It's actually the opposite. Being horribly flawed and recklessly stupid gives people something to use all those "barrelsful of ink" on. If Palin was competent we'd be bored with her by now. There would be no story. It's her incompetence coupled with this brazen lust for power and the lack of any self-irony or doubt that sparks the press. It's certainly not her ideas, because they are not hers or ideas. They're overly-digested Republican platitudes. And candidly, fact-checking Palin is like critiquing a squirrel on his algebra.

Comeback Whitney hits a flat note Down Under - Global Nation

    Posted: 23 Feb 2010 12:48 AM PST

SYDNEY—Disappointed fans stormed out of Whitney Houston's first Australian concert in 12 years, reports said Tuesday, as the ageing diva failed to hit her famous high notes and struggled for breath.

"She couldn't entertain a dead rat, to be honest," one fan told local media outside Monday night's Brisbane concert.

Houston, 46, only managed two songs before taking an extended break and relied heavily on her backup singers, reviewers said, with some remarking she seemed disoriented and unable to remember the names of her band members.

The star was seen coughing frequently, and paused as she was about to hit the epic high note of her signature tune "I Will Always Love You" to towel herself down and take a sip of water.

But promoter Andrew McManus hit back at suggestions she was suffering poor health.

"It was not a train wreck," McManus said. "She was hitting most of the notes, yes, her throat was a little croaky.

"Her health is fine but she's also not 22 years of age anymore."

McManus agreed Houston was out of breath in a "couple of songs" and probably wasn't "up to scratch of the Whitney of 20 years ago".

"But I don't apologize for that, she had a red-hot go."

Houston, who has sold over 170 million albums worldwide, suffered a major career setback after admitting drug use during an abusive relationship with ex-husband Bobby Brown.

The Australian concerts are part of her comeback "Nothing But Love" tour, which kicked off at the end of last year.

Some fans said they would be demanding their money back.

"She was not fit to perform," wrote one on the Courier Mail newspaper's website. "She seemed to be on another planet and the concert was laughable." US pop icon Britney Spears attracted the ire of Australian fans in November, with concert-goers reportedly walking out of her show because she was lip-synching.
