SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Michael Jackson's stunning death made him Yahoo's biggest star this year.

The quest to find out what happened to Jackson in his final hours on June 25 and celebrate his legacy elevated the late entertainer to the top of the Internet company's annual breakdown of the most frequent online search requests.

The self-proclaimed King of Pop ended singer Britney Spears' four-year reign atop Yahoo's search rankings.

The list released Tuesday is meant to provide a reading on our cultural pulse. It may not be the best barometer, given that Yahoo Inc. ranks a distant second to Google Inc. in Internet search. Google plans to release its own list of popular searches later this month.

Jackson will probably rank high on Google, too. So many inquiries poured in about Jackson within the first few hours of his death that part of Google's Web site interpreted the fusillade as an automated attack.

As usual, people using Yahoo's search engine in 2009 seemed to be most interested in celebrities and other diversions, even against the sobering backdrop of the worst recession in 70 years.

Besides Jackson, the other new entrants on Yahoo's Top 10 list this year were: No. 2, "Twilight," the vampire story that has spawned two movies, including the recently released "New Moon," that are drawing hordes of teenage girls and their mothers; No. 4, Megan Fox, an actress who starred in the movie "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen;" No. 8, Kim Kardashian, part of a family with their own reality TV series; and No. 9, NASCAR, an automobile racing league.

The other half of the list consisted of 2008 holdovers. They were: No. 3, WWE, or World Wrestling Entertainment; No. 5, Spears; No. 6, Naruto, a character created for the Japanese art form known as anime; No. 7, top-rated television series "American Idol;" and No. 10, RuneScape, an online video game.

Barack Obama made Yahoo's top searches list in 2008 as a presidential candidate and the President-elect, but fell off after he took office in 2009. The others falling out of the Top 10 were all actresses: Miley Cyrus, Jessica Alba, Lindsay Lohan and Angelina Jolie.

Although the economy wasn't as hot a topic as entertainment in 2009, the hard times clearly weighed on people's minds. "Coupons" and "unemployment" were the most requested search tied to finances, according to Yahoo.

While there's little doubt that Britney Spears and Jason Trawick, her agent and boyfriend, seem very happy these days, the two aren't engaged or getting married.

We're confident in stating that as a fact, since they're taking things slowly, her impulsive days are long gone ... and her management team said this on the record.

Why let facts stop you sometimes, though? Right, OK!?

Apparently fresh out of Robsten rumors (although Kristen "will be there for Rob" in an ancillary article), the celeb gossip publication featured Britney this week.

She's apparently tying the not with Jason Trawick in a million-dollar beach wedding. Surprising that budget-conscious Jamie Spears gave that the green light ...

Sean and Jayden supposedly gave Jason Trawick their blessing.

The alleged scoop in OK!: Britney Spears is telling friends she's ready to marry her boyfriend Jason Trawick. And "all it took was her boys' blessing" to convince her.

Mmm hmm. Right. We're sure her sons, ages four and three, sat down with her and had a heart-to-heart, expressing their concerns and going over a pro-con list.

This will be her third wedding in five years. Or would be, if it were actually happening. And what's with the headline, guys? Creative. Never been used before.

Nevertheless, OK! cites a source claiming that the lip-syncher "does not have a doubt in her mind that she wants to spend the rest of her life with Jason."

"She has already discussed marriage with him."

Wow, a discussion? We're totally convinced.

Tour bus with Britney Spears' gear blown off the road in Australia ... - Los Angeles Times Blogs

BritneySpearsStory Strong winds blew the bus carrying Britney Spears' tour equipment off the road in Parkes, New South Wales, Australia, TMZ reports.

The driver was hospitalized for injuries suffered in the rollover accident. Strong winds have been complicating firefighting efforts in NSW for weeks now.

The equipment was all OK for Friday night's concert in Melbourne. Though, would it really have mattered if the microphones got a bit dinged up?

Probably not.

Best wishes to the driver for a speedy recovery.

Britney Spears' Equipment Bus Crashes In Australia - Gant Daily

Melbourne, Australia (CNS) - A Britney Spears tour bus, which carried her tour equipment, has crashed during a bus storm. The equipment was undamaged, but the driver was taken to the hospital. The 28-year-old "Circus" performer was not on board.

According to police reports, the accident occurred in Parkes, New South Wales around 4:30 p.m. after strong winds forced the truck off the road.

The driver's condition was unknown.

Spears will be at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne Friday for her "The Circus Starring Britney Spears" tour in the country.

Last week, one of Miley Cyrus' tour bus also suffered an accident. The driver was left dead, while nine members of her crew were injured.

Courtney Love, the lead singer and lyricist behind the rock band, Hole, gives truth to Rolling Stone calling her "the most controversial woman in the history of rock." So, what did Love do to stir things up this time?

Love, 45, decided to post a rant about Britney Spears being molested by her father, Jamie Spears, on her Facebook.

Love said:

britneys dad molested her , imagine the father that molested you owning you for slavery while your forced to sing songs picked for thier sexual content every night, insane right? i have it on First had authority, and fight as hard as she is and does she still didnt pull that card, its a pride thing i can relate to, However they want to play dirty, lets go, Im SO not affraid of the little trolls who hit this when i was f***** up who are called lawyers. lets GO."

Could it be true what Love is saying?! We wished we knew too, but no word on the Spears' fam commenting on Love's post.
