LOS ANGELES — A former boyfriend of singer Britney Spears has pleaded no contest to leaving the scene of an accident that injured a man who was trying to serve him with a restraining order. Adnan Ghalib, 37, entered the plea Friday in Van NuysSuperior Court. Prosecutors say the victim was trying to serve Ghalib a temporary restraining order obtained by Spears' father at Ghalib's Encino apartment complex last February when Ghalib drove his car toward the process server. The man jumped on the car's hood and then fell off, breaking his wrist and sustaining other injuries. Ghalib then drove away. In exchange for the plea, prosecutors say two other felony counts will be dismissed when Ghalib is sentenced next month. He faces up to a year in county jail. ___ October 10, 2009 01:12 AM EDT Copyright 2009, The Associated Press. All rights reserved. | Kevin Federline owes over $110,000 in unpaid rent and damages after ... - Transworld News Posted: 08 Oct 2009 08:07 AM PDT London, UK 10/08/2009 03:03 PM GMT (TransWorldNews)
The dancer who has two sons, Sean Preston, four, and Jayden James, three, with ex-wife Britney Spears allegedly infuriated landlords of his rented Los Angeles home by disappearing without paying the last six months of rent and leaving the property uninhabitable. Photographic evidence shows cigarette butts and glass bottles tossed across the garden and in the gutters, drawings over the walls, a broken dishwasher and damage to smoke detectors and light fittings. The aspiring rapper also had tinted windows installed in the bathroom and converted another room into a studio without permission. A source said: "The landlord was distraught when he saw the state of the house. "Everything was broken and even the garden lampposts were bent." The unnamed landlord has sent a letter to Kevin, 31, demanding $110,661 in back rent and compensation or he will take legal action. A spokesperson for the star is unsure why the house has been left in such bad condition or why the rent wasn't paid. The representative added: "His agent, manager and lawyer no longer work for him. None of us have any idea what is going on."

Alerus Center officials said the concert attracted 13,019 people, including suite holders, and earned $1.1 million. Expenses totaled $1.2 million, with most of it the $850,000 guarantee that the Alerus Center made with promoters. Stilll, University of North Dakota economist David Flynn estimated the concert had a direct economic impact of $1.9 million. The figure is based on surveys of concertgoers about how much they spent on such things as food, beverages and hotel stays. Officials estimated about a third of the concertgoers were from Canada. |
| The trick to Halloween costumes - Star-Gazette Posted: 09 Oct 2009 09:06 PM PDT Halloween is the time of year when people of all ages can become someone they're not - a ghost, a witch, a pirate or even a celebrity. It has become fashionable lately for adults to dress as their favorite stars. Last year, the most popular celebrity to copy was Sarah Palin. She was in the news almost every day. She has a look that can be exaggerated. Palin also attracts your eye, whether or not you agree with her politics. These traits make for a very popular Halloween character. The stars, in turn, benefit from a campy Halloween compliment. This year, I predict that the most popular Halloween celebrities will be multi-generational. The Kardashian family is the first group that comes to mind. You can easily keep up with Khloe by donning a wedding dress. Add a baby bump and be Kourtney. Put on a track suit, and you're Bruce Jenner. Big hair, big make-up and big curves will turn you into Kim - although I've seen Kim in real life and she is slender and petite. But you're copying the cartoonish characters you see on TV. Another Halloween celebrity family will be "Jon & Kate Plus 8." The couple is constantly being interviewed, each telling his and her side of their sad story. Kate's unusual hairstyle and Jon's Ed Hardy T-shirts will make them easy to mimic. Unfortunately, once you put your family on a reality show, everyone knows your business. The mother-daughter costumes can definitely include actress Tori Spelling and her estranged mom, Candy. They each wrote autobiographies publicizing their ongoing feud. You can dress like you're ready for an exhausting day of shopping in Beverly Hills. The mother-daughter theme can be used to re-create the unknown stars of "Toddlers and Tiaras," a TV program that showcases little girls in false eyelashes and spray tans entering beauty pageants. Moms, and sometimes dads, are never far behind. If you and a friend dress like a toddler and parent, you will be acknowledging the campy quality of every child star since Bette Davis in "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?" I think that the Octomom will have a loyal following this Halloween, as will Billy Ray and Miley Cyrus. While most of the Halloween stars are women, both women and men can choose to dress the part. Every year, there are huge Halloween parades in major cities like New York, San Francisco and New Orleans. Two years ago, I attended the annual Costume Carnaval in West Hollywood, Calif. Hundreds of people were dressed like Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, Posh Spice and Britney Spears. One guy in particular dressed like Britney in a streaky blond wig, heavy make-up, a tube top, short skirt and silver platform sandals. He pushed around an empty double stroller with a sign reading, "Y'all seen my kids?" So whatever your Halloween plans, whether you're dressing up or watching the parade pass by, enjoy the holiday and all the fabulous costumes. As for me, I usually keep my witch's hat near my broomstick for safekeeping. |
