| I Always Wanted to Be like Britney Spears in the Tabloids, Lohan Says - Softpedia Posted: 11 Sep 2009 11:33 PM PDT Not long ago, as her movies were either thrashed by critics or sent straight to DVD because of poor reception at pre-screenings, actress Lindsay Lohan was saying it was fame that had literally killed her budding career. In the meantime, though, the star has had a change of heart, telling Access Hollywood just recently that fame and attention from the paparazzi was what she dreamed of achieving when she was still a teen. Speaking on the media frenzy she generates every time she steps out in public and how her personal life plays mostly in the tabloids (and on Twitter, one might as well add), Lindsay says she doesn't really resent it. When she was growing up, she would see Britney Spears in the media all the time and she literally dreamed of one day becoming just like that, the actress says now. She also knew from the start that, once in the big game, media attention would come automatically. "Everyone goes through tough times and the second that I decided I wanted to be in front of the camera … I think I've always kind of aspired to be like Britney Spears in the tabloids when I was in middle school. It's kind of something you sign up for in the beginning and if you really want it, you know that comes with it." Lindsay says for Access Hollywood. Of course, that's not to say she appreciates or finds any joy in all that comes with this kind of intrusive attention since she too has bad days when she would like to be left alone, the star adds. However, she's come to learn to let go, not to pay attention to every trifle that is being put out there about her and, in a way, detach herself from the madness. This doesn't change the fact that, overall, the relishes the spotlight. "There are times when it does affect me." Lindsay says. "When I'm having a bad day or dealing with something personal that is no one else's business but they're going to spin it anyway. If I make the wrong face and I'm having a really great day, they're going to say something negative anyway. I know that I'm a target and I know that I've given people a lot of reason to kind of run with things that have been said. I no longer intend on doing that, but I'm not perfect." the star adds. | LOHAN BASED FAME ON SPEARS - Daily Star Posted: 11 Sep 2009 10:05 AM PDT LINDSAY LOHAN always wanted to live her life in the spotlight - after envying her idol BRITNEY SPEARS' rise to fame.
The actress first dabbled with stardom as a 12 year old, appearing in Disney movie The Parent Trap before her turn in 2004 film Mean Girls made her a media favourite. Lohan became a regular on the party circuit in Los Angeles, but spiralled out of control just a few years later. She was arrested twice in 2007 on drink driving charges and has spent time in rehab in a bid to combat her troubles. But the star admits she always knew the pitfalls of fame - because she watched the Toxic hitmaker's meteoric rise as a youngster. She tells Access Hollywood, ?Everyone goes through tough times. I think I've always kind of aspired to be like Britney Spears in the tabloids when I was in middle school. It's kind of something you sign up for in the beginning and if you really want it, you know that comes with it." Lohan admits the scrutiny she has faced during her decade in the limelight has had its problems - but she is determined not to give the press a chance to criticise her in the future. She adds, ?There are times when it does affect me. When I'm having a bad day or dealing with something personal that is no one else's business they're going to spin it anyway. If I make the wrong face and I'm having a really great day, they're going to say something negative anyway. "I know that I'm a target and I know that I've given people a lot of reason to kind of run with things that have been said. I no longer intend on doing that, but I'm not perfect.? But despite her troubles, the 23 year old is adamant she wouldn't change her past - because it has shaped the person she has become. Lohan says, ?There are things I would like to take back and I always say that, but there aren't many things that I regret doing, because I wouldn't have learned from them, and I wouldn't be where I am today. I think it's taken me a long time to learn how to love myself before I could love someone else too. Whether it be a best friend or family or someone that I'm in a relationship with.? | Live from New York it’s (again) the MTV Video Music Awards - Pantagraph Posted: 11 Sep 2009 11:12 PM PDT NEW YORK - After two years in Las Vegas, the MTV Video Music Awards are back home Sunday night in Manhattan at Radio City Music Hall, where they debuted 25 years ago. But MTV isn't big on looking back and the awards show's executive producer, Dave Sirulnick, says this year's edition will make the most of its New York setting (think "West Side Story"-inspired live shots) while being focused on the future. "We like change," says Sirulnick, adding that there will also be a tribute to Michael Jackson. "We embrace change." Janet Jackson will open the VMAs with the tribute to her late brother. That change extends to the performances, where newcomers Lady Gaga - tied for top nominee with Beyonce, both up for nine awards - and Taylor Swift will be onstage alongside superstars Jay-Z and Green Day. Q. What can you say about the performances? A. If you've been watching what Lady Gaga's been doing all year long, I would say that's all been an appetizer for what she's going to do for this show. She is coming with something quite spectacular. ... She is somebody who has told us that she has grown up watching the VMAs and watching all the iconic and legendary VMA performances and how meaningful it is for her to have her chance. Q. That must happen a lot. A. The VMA performances have sort of become a proving ground. It's like this real big game of "Top That!" Can you get over on this stage? I think it's because of the legacy of so many talented performers over the years. ... Performances over the years have helped define elements of people's careers, especially up-and-coming artists. When you're performing on the VMAs and your career is on the ascension, it's your moment. What are you going to do with it? use the platform of the VMAs, the freedom of the VMAs, and the knowledge that their peers and this audience are going to be watching them. They know that if you nail a VMA performance, it will be remembered. | Make My Day - American Reporter Posted: 11 Sep 2009 10:43 PM PDT Make My Day PARIS FOR PREZ by Erik Deckers American Reporter Humor Writer Indianapolis, Indiana
Printable version of this story INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- It was the snit heard 'round the world. The snarky, scantily-clad video response that got pundits tongues wagging about something other than politics, at least until their wives saw them. Maybe its echo has faded from the news, but it still makes me wake up screaming in the middle of the night. Paris Hilton says she's running for President. The vapid blond heiress and star of "The Simple Life," announced her candidacy in a spoof video on FunnyOrDie.com. Hilton said she was running because that "wrinkly white-haired guy" - John McCain, for those of you emerging from under your rocks - used her image in a television spot against his opponent, presumptive President of the United States, Barack Obama. "Hey America, I'm Paris Hilton, and I'm a celebrity too," she said without a sense of irony or shame. "Only I'm not from the olden days, and I'm not promising change like that other guy. I'm just hot." Oh man, this is really bad. I've always been a big supporter of third party candidates, but my one litmus test is whether they can even spell "candidate." And that they haven't starred in an Internet sex video/ I swear, if she wins, I'm moving to Canada with Alec Baldwin, unless he chickens out like he did last time. (Big wussy. The guy swore up and down he would move to Canada if George Bush became President, but we're stuck with him and his 17 brothers.) Still, I don't think she's got a real shot, so I'll probably be here for a while. "But then that wrinkly white-haired guy used me in his campaign ad, which means I guess I'm running for President," she continued. Yeah, right. By that logic, since her boyfriend used her in that sex video, I guess that would make her a slut. . . Uh, oh. This is worse than I thought! Do they get the NFL in Canada? Can I get the Dish Network to work up there? "So thanks for the endorsement, white-haired dude, and I want America to know I'm, like, totally ready to lead." Oh, good, as long as you're totally ready. I mean, we wouldn't want someone who was , like, only concerned about whether certain other world leaders are, like, hot, or whether the White House clashes with her outfits. She'll probably appoint Extreme Makerover's Ty Pennington the Secretary of the Department of the Interior to make sure. "I'll see you at the White House," she concluded. "Oh, and I might paint it pink." Looks like I've got a tough decision to make. Do I go for the big city or the small town? I've been to Toronto, and it's a nice city with a strong arts community. But if I lived in a smaller town, I'd be closer to nature and some really good fishing. Dryden, Ontario is gorgeous in the summer. But even as I pace the floor and gnaw on my fingernails, I have to admit, her energy policy made some sense. "We can do limited offshore drilling with strict environmental oversight, while creating tax incentives to get Detroit making hybrid and electric cars. That way, offshore drilling carries us until the new technologies kick in, which will create new jobs and energy independence. Energy crisis solved. I'll see you at the debates, bitches." But then she, like, totally shot herself in the foot when she said she was considering Rihanna, the R&B artist, as her vice presidential nominee. Come on! Rihanna?! Are you kidding me? Everyone knows she doesn't have the foreign affairs experience needed to re-establish the U.S. as a world leader. Plus, she was born in Barbados, so she's not a natural-born American citizen, which means she can't take on that role. While some people would say Britney Spears, Hilton's fellow celeb and John McCain commercial target, is the emotional favorite, I think Cameron Diaz is the better choice. She can shore up the Hispanic vote and improve relations with Latin America. Of course, you'll also need Ashton Kutcher to head up the Department of Homeland Security (Hey Iran, you've been punk'd!). And what do you think of Scarlett Johansen as the Secretary of State... ? Uh, excuse me. I don't know what came over me. If anything, I'm worrying too much about something that will never happen. Hilton is only 27, eight years too young to run for president, which means I don't have to worry about a global disaster for eight more years. But with her sordid past, I doubt she could even be elected dogcatcher of Putnam County. Besides, I'm hoping Lindsey Lohan will be out of rehab and ready to run for Senate by 2016.
