| Britney Spears to end Circus in “nice place“ Melbourne - Top News India Posted: 26 Aug 2009 10:34 PM PDT
The singer wants to finish off her tour in "a nice place" and wants to celebrate her birthday on December 2, according to her promoter Paul Dainty. The 'Womanizer' hitmaker had three shows lined up for the town before adding one more. "It is her first trip to Australia and she is really excited. We really wanted more shows in Melbourne ... so we talked at length with her management and they thought why not," News. com. au quoted Paul as saying. Spears will play at Rod Laver Arena from November 11-13, after which she'll perform in Sydney and Brisbane. Ultimately, she will come back to Melbourne for her final show on November 27. Paul added: "It is by far the biggest pop spectacle to be seen here in years," (ANI) This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Spears will play at Rod Laver Arena from November 11-13 before heading to Sydney and Brisbane. She will come back to Melbourne for her final show on November 27. "It is by far the biggest pop spectacle to be seen here in years," Dainty said. Tickets go on sale at midday on September 7 from Ticketek. | Britney Spears Tour 'Intimidating' For Opener Jordin Sparks - VH1.com Posted: 26 Aug 2009 03:53 PM PDT Britney Spears for her Circus tour — needless to say, it's been a whirlwind few weeks for the "American Idol" winner. "It was a little intimidating, just because it's such a different crowd than the Jonas crowd," she told MTV News as she made her way over to Madison Square Garden for the her third night on Britney's tour. "And you go to a Britney concert and it's all of her fans and they have grown up ... but if they scream, they're screaming 'cause they want to. They don't scream at just anything, so when I took that stage and I could hear a little bit through that they were excited and that I wasn't so out of place, it was awesome." | Star choreographer brings Bollywood to the Beach - HamptonRoads.com Posted: 26 Aug 2009 09:29 PM PDT By Jan Gaillard Correspondent VIRGINIA BEACH Bollywood is here at last. International ballroom dance champion and Bollywood choreographer Sandip Soparrkar is on a working holiday in Hampton Roads, teaching the dance sensation from India at DanceSport VA. Bollywood is a musical film genre from India and South Asia that models its dancing on classical Indian dance, folk dance and dances of historic northern Indian courtesans. In modern Bollywood films, dance elements are blended with Western dance styles. The active dance form is gaining popularity in America as a marketable workout dance, said DanceSport owner Betty Lu. "I got a lot of phone calls after Sandip's television interview on Channel 13," she said. He's teaching a Bollywood Boot Camp on Saturday, she said. Soparrkar's unique style combines Bollywood and Latin ballroom elements. He gained international recognition for his creative choreography, teaching stars such as Madonna, Guy Ritchie, Shakira, Britney Spears, Beyoncé and Kenny G. "It's very creative to mix two cultures together, and I know how to keep the authenticity of ballroom without hampering the culture of India," he said. "It's a fine line, because in India's culture, men and women don't dance close." Soparrkar, 32, competed professionally in ballroom dance for nine years with European ballroom champion Jessy Randhawa. The pair also performed at Madonna's 50th birthday bash in London. Soparrkar will train participants from India in ballroom dance for the 2010 Olympic Games, and he owns Sandip Soparrkar's Ballroom Studio, with branches throughout India. Best known for his work on the music video for "Womanizer" by Britney Spears, Soparrkar churns out choreography for Bollywood films in India, as well as Hollywood projects like the upcoming movie "Nine" and Broadway plays. Lu originally connected with Soparrkar through the Internet, inviting him to visit the studio. "He's willing to work hard, but he's very down to earth," Lu said. "He's got a very good attitude toward life. Ballroom dancing is still his first love." Why did Soparrkar choose Virginia Beach over an exciting city like New York? "When Betty told me she has instructors come from all over the world to teach at her studio, I was very impressed," said Soparrkar. "She was warm and friendly, and it's hard to find people like that." Soparrkar also wanted to teach "normal" people to dance. "I think regular people do it for a genuine love of dancing. People like Britney Spears and Madonna pick up the moves very quickly," he said. "But they are coming there for a purpose - it's just one more project to them. When it's done, their interest is over." "For me, you should dance for the pleasure of your own self, for the sake of dance and nothing else," he said. "You'll find that in a classroom, but you won't find that in a rehearsal hall."

| 'Barack' not catching on as a baby name - The Money Times Posted: 26 Aug 2009 11:02 PM PDT Michelle, the first lady's name, and those of her daughters, Sasha and Malia, appeared on the list released Wednesday by the Social Security Administration, The New York Times reports. Sasha, at 353rd, hasn't changed much in rank in the past few years. Malia jumped to 345th most popular baby name last year from 400th in 2007, while Michelle dropped from 94th to 103rd. Other names proved popular because of their association with celebrities. Hillary jumped to 715 from 961 during the last presidential campaign. Jayden skipped from 75 to 11 after Britney Spears used it. The top girls name is Emma, which has ranked in the single digits since 2002, as it did in the late 19th century when these rankings started. It displaced Emily for first place. Jacob, which replaced Michael as No. 1 in 1998 and has stayed there, is the only name to be given to 1 percent or more of the babies born in 2008. Copyright 2009 by United Press International.
