| Britney Spears adds Jordin Sparks to tour - Arizona Business Gazette Posted: 15 Aug 2009 03:37 PM PDT The announced pairing of pop superstar Britney Spears and "American Idol" winner Jordin Sparks on the second leg of Spears' North American concert tour should boost Sparks' career but may prove an uncomfortable match. The move no doubt will increase the post-"Idol" exposure of Glendale's Sparks, who said in a statement, "Britney's show is incredible, and for me to be a part of it is a great opportunity." That, paired with recent dates with the Jonas Brothers, including an Aug. 11 show in Glendale, shows shrewd management from Sparks' camp. If the Spears dates, in New York City, Los Angeles, Boston, Philadelphia, Miami, Detroit, Chicago and Las Vegas, come off, they will provide continued relief from the disappointment that Sparks encountered when a planned 2008 tour with neosoul singer Alicia Keys didn't work out because of vocal problems suffered by both artists. The Sparks-Keys pairing was promising because both are cut from similar cloth -- talented singers who have explored R&B and soul sounds. Sparks has used a larger dose of pop in her two albums, including this year's "Battlefield." The weakest moments on that CD, as well as her self-titled 2007 debut, came when Sparks tried to mimic Spears with some throwaway dance tracks. Sparks, 19, is at her best when she veers toward soul and power ballads on such songs as the title track from "Battlefield" as well as "No Parade" and "Let It Rain." However, touring with Spears could prove challenging for Sparks. Although Spears has yet again brought her sometimes-bizarre offstage behavior largely into line for her Circus tour, which visited Glendale in April, she has taken career and personal paths that signify everything Sparks has so far successfully avoided. Spears' offstage antics, including one failed marriage and another that was annulled, a series of public meltdowns and custody fights involving her two young children, often have taken the focus off her music, including her strong comeback CD, 2008's "Circus." Onstage, Spears, 27, no longer even pretends that she isn't lip-syncing to taped tracks. (The audience in Glendale didn't seem to care, but that doesn't let her off the hook.) She embarrassed herself with an ill-prepared appearance at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards before redeeming herself on the same show a year later. Sparks, in contrast, has kept much of her personal life away from the public eye. She often talks about the religious faith that has guided her through life and says she will wait for marriage to become sexually active. She has returned to the "Idol" stage since her 2007 win, and appeared in other safe venues such as Super Bowl XLII in Glendale and the 2008 NBA All-Star Game in Phoenix. Sparks has belted her songs out live in concert on tour. Reviews indicate she has been impressive in her recent dates with the Jonas Brothers. Sparks will reap some benefits from her dates with Spears (no Valley dates are scheduled), but the Glendale singer privately may be wishing that Keys would launch another tour that she could sign onto. The star will join the second leg of "The Circus Featuring Britney Spears" tour, Britney announced on her official Web site on Friday. The former "American Idol" champ will be a special guest on the U.S. portion of the tour, kicking off with three nights in New York City before heading to Los Angeles, Boston and more. The second leg concludes with a pair of shows in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Events Center. "Britney's show is incredible and for me to be a part of it is a great opportunity," Jordin said in a statement. The revamped "Circus" will also feature opening act Kristinia DeBarge as well as select performances by Girlicious and One Call. Jordin is singing in support of her sophomore album, "Battlefield," which was released on July 21. The star, 19, just finished a tour with fellow teens the Jonas Brothers. This story is complete BS. You're just jealous. Leave Britney alone!! We know that one or more of the above comments are what you're about to say, and we've heard it all before. Come on, we're just posting a photo. It is undeniably true that as celebrity gossip purveyors, we meticulously analyze every detail, sometimes overly so. But we are forced to ask again: Is Britney Spears engaged? Despite the fact that she hasn't been seen with agent beau Jason Trawick in some time, the ring she's been wearing - on the ring finger of her left hand - seems to suggest it. Sure, she could just be wearing a diamond ring for fun, but ... Is Britney Spears sporting an engagement ring? You be the judge. Engaged to Jason Trawick or not, something certainly has our girl in a good mood these days (something besides her daily cocktail of anti-depressants). Spears strolled through L.A. with a friend smiling all the while before hopping into her Porsche Boxster with her assistant and driving away happily. A guy popping the question will do that.
